Ste Barbe Chapel, place of pilgrimage and firemen's festival, whose tower dates from the 13th century and the nave from 1700 (Succession of interventions 13th century, end of 17th century, 18th century and 20th century). Choir of the chapel of St Barbara: the arch that guarded the entrance was originally a Romanesque arch. The nave is in Renaissance style. Legend : Ste Barbe would have been beheaded at the place of the altar and a spring would have gushed out at the place. However, known since the Romans who channelled its water to Strasbourg, this lake is a small natural reservoir at the outlet of the Souffel spring. The flow of the underground spring reaches 17 litres per second. The water temperature is constant (around 12--13 °C) and therefore never freezes. The sulphur content of the water (Schwefelsee) has made it possible to use it from Roman times until the 1950s in thermal baths. The curative properties of the water were mainly used to treat skin diseases. The lake was also used as a horse wash-house (Rosschwemm in Alsatian), a sloping plane allowing horses to gradually enter the lake.
