A decades-long commitment

Marie-Claire Burger has known Maison du Kochersberg since 1990. “In the beginning, I volunteered on Sundays, then gradually became more involved. I’ve been fully committed to this adventure for 25 years now,” she explains with pride.

She is also a volunteer museum guide for group tours, enthusiastically sharing her knowledge of local history.

Today, she manages the reserves, coordinates donations, and designs certain exhibitions that attract both locals and visitors curious about local history. “What motivates me is the opportunity to share, pass on and shed light on our origins. You can’t project yourself into the future without knowing where you come from.

Captivating exhibitions, the fruit of meticulous work

Each exhibition at the Maison du Kochersberg is the fruit of several years of research and creation. The current exhibition, devoted to gardening and food, particularly resonates with Marie-Claire’s background: “As a nutritionist with a passion for gardening, it was a theme close to my heart”.

Among the objects on display, the famous Weck jars aroused great interest. She enthusiastically recounts their history in the region: “Did you know that the method of preserving food in jars was invented during the Reichsland period? This know-how began in Saverne before becoming an international phenomenon!”

A place that surprises and enriches

Visitors are often struck by the quality and originality of the exhibits: “They appreciate that everything changes every year, which is rare for a museum. There’s no dust here, just a bright, welcoming space where you can always learn something new.

The team is already preparing the next exhibitions: one on sacred art and another on traditional everyday clothing. “We’ll be presenting a collection of work clothes, rarely seen in Alsace. This will give us an insight into the daily lives of our ancestors.
